Prescott Branch Library
The Prescott Library will offer spaces of solitude and commune. A labyrinthine entryway leads visitors into the heart of the building, a central courtyard and reception area, from which pathways to various aspects of programming unwind. Children’s and teenage areas are located in opposing poles of the Eastern wing, affording both age groups distinction and autonomous functions within the building. The adult and general programming areas unfold over a series of descending levels which culminate in a grand reading room. Zenithal light illuminates the space in an effect which is calming and conducive to reading. Daylighting strategies to achieve this effect, as well as a circulation system which inspires a sense of discovery, are driving forces within the design.
